In an MBBR-based STP, wastewater is first screened and then pumped into the MBBR tank. Inside the tank, the wastewater comes into contact with the biofilm attached to the moving medium, which is constantly agitated to provide aeration and mixing. The biofilm contains microorganisms that consume organic matter, converting it into carbon dioxide and water.
After treatment in the MBBR tank, the wastewater flows to a secondary clarifier, where the treated water is separated from the remaining solids. The clarified water is then disinfected and discharged into the environment, while the solids are returned to the MBBR tank to continue the treatment process.
MBBR-based STPs are highly efficient and effective in removing organic matter from wastewater. They are also compact and require less space compared to other treatment systems. These features make them ideal for use in areas with limited space or where centralized wastewater treatment is not feasible.
